Raymond J. “Jack” Reeves, 92, of Vinton, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Vinton Lutheran Home due to complications of age.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton with Pastor Mark Urlaub officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time. The casket will remain closed. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Jack was born October 5, 1917, in rural Marion County, Iowa, the son of Walter and Clara Little Reeves. He was raised and attended school in Marion County.
On March 26, 1946, Jack married Ruby Grimm in Dysart. The couple lived in Garrison where Jack drove a school bus and was custodian for the Garrison School district. He and Ruby later moved to Vinton, and Jack worked for the Benton County Roads Department until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton. He was a charter member of the Vinton Eagles Club. He enjoyed square dancing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.
Jack is survived by his wife, Ruby, of Vinton; his daughter, Deena (Dan) Kuempel of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Andy and Caitie Kuempel, both of Iowa City; and three sisters: Enid Mart of Vinton, Rose (Delbert) Baldwin of Burlington, and Jean Smith of Alexandria, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Warren; and sister, Betty Brubaker.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
